HOLISTIC THERAPY

Massage is the application of physical touch to affect the systems of the body; i.e. the muscular, skeletal, digestive, elimination, circulatory, lymphatic, endocrine, emotional, mental and nervous systems.  It can also be done for spiritual reasons and for manipulating the chi, prana or life force in a person.  It's objective is the restoration of function to all systems of the body, release of tension, clearing out of old emotions and unblocking chi in the body.

TENSION RELEASE AND ENERGY FLOW

Massage therapy helps promote relaxation by releasing stress and tension in our bodies.  Too much un-resolved stress in our lives can cause constant muscular tension.  This tension and tightness reduces the flow of blood and oxygen to the muscles and organs and also restricts lymph supply.  Tension creates a tendency for a build up of toxins in the body, and reduces the flow of our subtle energy or life force (Prana or Chi).  Tension can lead to symptomatic feelings of fatigue, heaviness, aches and pains, tightness of muscles and stiffness.  Muscular tension can increase the likelihood of strains and

injuries.

HISTORY OF MASSAGE

Massage may be the oldest and simplest form of medical care ever discovered.  Egyptian tomb paintings show people being massaged while in Eastern cultures, massage has been practiced continually since ancient times.

Massage therapy has been around for many thousands of years, and today many different styles of massage can be found, all varying in their cultural origins, techniques and goals.  One of the great advantages of today, is that we are able to draw upon these many systems of thought  and practices, take what works and what makes sense to us, then integrate these aspects into new forms of massage or form new styles that are multi-cultural.

NATURAL THERAPIES AVAILABLE

Raynor Technique Therapeutic Massage

Raynor Massage is a system of bodywork covering not just the muscles of the body but also the skeletal but also the subtle body energy systems.  It combines the best elements of different styles from around the world with particular influence from the East.

Reflexology

Also known as 'Zone Therapy', Reflexology is a form of massage in which pressure is applied to certain parts of the hands and feet in order to improve circulation, ease pain and promote relaxation and healing elsewhere in the body.

Shiatsu

Using the same philosophy as Reflexology, Shiatsu is the Japanese system of finger-pressure massage on special points along acupuncture 'meridians' - the invisible channels of chi energy flowing through the body.  Blocked energy along these meridians can cause discomfort and dis-ease, so the aim of Shiatsu is to stretch and open the meridians, release blockages and re-balance the energy flow.

Acupressure

Used in conjunction with Shiatsu, Acupressure (a form of traditional Chinese Medicine) works on the system of channels (meridians) to relieve pain and promote self-healing.  Acupressure involves placing physical pressure, by hand, elbow or other aids, on different pressure points on the surface of the body. The goal = To stimulate chi.

Other Therapies used include:

Thai, Swedish, Therapeutic, Remedial and Deep Tissue.  Relaxation (little pressure) also available upon request.
